Miles Davis’ liberating Kind of Blue, Dave Brubeck Quartet’s Time Out, with its unorthodox time signatures, Charles Mingus’ Mingus Ah Um, created with a vision that anticipated post-modernism, and Ornette Coleman’s Shape of Jazz to Come, on which rules took second place to expressionism, allow 1959 to be identified as a landmark year for the changes that would shake up the musicians and audience alike.
This collection features these four groundbreaking records in their entirety, each with bonus tracks, giving a total running time of almost 5 hours of the finest Jazz in existence. The set also includes a 20 Page booklet featuring rare photographs and extensive notes by noted Jazz author Charles Waring, all encased in a collector’s edition box set.
