ELVIS PRESLEY THE ’57 SESSIONS Every Recording Made During 1957 If 1956 was the year Elvis replaced his local following with a national and international fan-base, ’57 was the year he cemented his position as the world’s most popular entertainer. By the end of the year he was providing over 60% of his record label RCA Victor’s income, and had generating more than 40 Million dollars of revenue from merchandising. It was also the year The King proved he could act, with both Loving You and Jailhouse Rock playing to packed houses through the second half of the year. But most crucially, the music he made during the 12 months in question was quite unbelievable – ‘57 was the year of All Shook Up, Got A Lot O’ Livin’ To Do, Mean Woman Blues, Party, Teddy Bear, Loving You, I Want To Be Free, Jailhouse Rock, Treat Me Nice and oh so many others. If Elvis had never recorded another note after receiving his draft papers in December of 1957, the world would still remember him as the finest artist of the 1950s and he would certainly remain a cultural icon.
