Patti Smith - Easter Rising

Patti Smith - Easter Rising

While undoubtedly amongst the most the significant artists to emerge for the early New York ‘punk’ scene in the mid-1970s, Patti Smith was head and shoulders in front of most of her fellow ‘CBGB’ artists who came from a similar impulse but lacked the vision Patti and her collaborators appeared to have in droves.
It was this vision that had driven Smith to compose and record her quite stunning debut, Horses, her difficult but ultimately satisfying follow up, Radio Ethiopia, and , crucially, her brave and expansive third record, 1978’s Easter – a work of sonic magnificence that included her only hit single to date, ‘Because The Night’.
It was just a couple of months after the release of this opus that Patti and band played a superb show at ‘The Place’, in Eugene, Oregon, a gig  broadcast live by Radio KCEL.
A high energy trawl through many of the finest tracks from her first three records, a strange reading of her poem ‘Salvation Of Rock’, plus a selection of well chosen covers, the full show is rediscovered on this CD in superb FM quality, for the first time.
A true collector’s item and a superb document of precisely where Patti was at during this phase of her career, Easter Rising is the long lost Patti Smith album that fans have been waiting years to own.
