Ben Webster - The Complete Recordings 1959-1962

Ben Webster - The Complete Recordings 1959-1962

Undoubtedly one of the most important tenor saxophonists in jazz history, Ben Websters legacy remains as potent as ever it was. Earning himself the nicknames The Brute and Frog through his trademark tough, raspy tone and volatile temper, he is revered alongside Lester Young and Coleman Hawkins as one of three main jazz tenors, and his continuing influence on the genre is enormous.
The four discs making up this collection contain over five hours of Ben Websters finest recordings, which includes both studio and live albums from the late 1950s and early 1960s. Some of his most highly-acclaimed records are included and work with; Gerry Mulligan, Jimmy Witherspoon, Harry Edison and Oscar Peterson are all featured. The result is a fitting testament to one of the great stylistic innovators in jazz who, without losing his subtly, developed a unique sound that would be a profound influence of generations of saxophonists to follow.
