Bill Evans - 12 Classic Labums 1956-1962

Bill Evans - 12 Classic Labums 1956-1962

Although not such a household name as someone like Miles Davis, Bill Evans was possibly even more influential, and certainly in the development of the harmonic and musical changes in Jazz from the 1950's onwards. A classic introvert which came across in his own music, with its cool and refined styling's, he pioneered a shift away from the music's traditional African influenced roots, and utilised the influence of much modern classical, modal, and impressionist harmony. This dismayed a fair few around the time, being the chief source of criticism among his detractors, however Evans always remained true to the improvisatory nature of the music, and could undoubtedly swing as hard as anyone else in more conventional settings.
